How Do I Get Paid A Bird Dog Payment For Referrals?

In the world of executive recruiting there are many ways to get referrals. The first steps are usually through cold calling where you contact an individual that you really don't know and discuss your client's opportunities with them to see if they know of anyone. That is also known as networking to the cold market.

The next way is connecting to the referrals from the individuals you spoke with during the cold calls. Most of the time you are able to use the person's name that refers them to your firm but other times, when requested, names are not used.

Typically the referrals are freely given as a gesture of good will. Other times, the headhunting firm may choose to reward the referrer with what is called a "bird dog payment" either in the form of a gift or a financial reward.

For a limited time, we are going to retest the bird dog payment program in an attempt to get high quality referrals. It is a myth that all headhunters get wildly rich once a placement is made. It is true that we do get paid well, but on the other hand, we go through an awful lot before we get rewarded.

We will offer a bird dog payment for qualified referrals under the following conditions:

1. The referral must meet the qualifications at least on paper up front.
2. The referral must not be a job hopper.
3. The referral must be made an offer and accept that offer.
4. The referral must stay on the job a minimum of 90 days. (We don't get paid for 90 days.)
5. The referral must use your name as the person referring him / her or you must associate your name with the referral.
6. Once the referral has stayed on the job for 90 days, we will cut a check to the person who referred the winning candidate for a minimum of $250 to a maximum of $500 depending on the level of position and the amount of commission we receive for any contingency search.
7. In case two people refer the same person, the first person who made the referral will qualify for the bird dog payment.

The bottom line is, if you refer a well qualified candidate who gets placed (it may take a few minutes of your time for you to think of one or to pass our letter or website address along to as many people as you know), you can earn $250 - $500.

We know we don't have to do this. We speak with wonderful people all the time who make referrals and don't expect anything in return. They know we will keep in touch with positions that become available from time to time, and in turn, that may benefit them directly as well. Just take a look around at the number of downsizings and layoffs and companies shutting down. We can all help each other. We just want to try this as a thank you for now.

Career College Jobs Resume Submission - Is My Confidentiality Assured?

If you are gainfully employed in a career college job presently, should you be afraid to submit your resume to a contingency or retained search recruiting firm? The simple answer is this. No. The majority of executive search recruiting firms have been in business for a long time. This shows stability and security on their part, allowing you to be confident that they conduct their businesses professionally. If they didn't go to great means to protect your confidentiality, they would be out of business today.

Once you submit your resume to a search firm, regardless of whether you are submitting it for a career college job or any other type of position, the search firm immediately goes to work matching your background with potential employers. The correct way for a search firm to respond is this: once they receive your resume, they will acknowledge receipt of it. After that, they will see if they have any current positions they are working on that could be a good fit for both you and for their client. If so, they will contact you by phone to discuss a specific opportunity. It's a good idea to provide a private email address and a phone number, possibly a cell phone number that is not connected to your present employer so the two of you can communicate confidentially.

Once the position is discussed, you can decide what to do from there. The true professional headhunter will not pass your background along to a client until you are aware of the details of the position and have given permission to the search firm to proceed.

If your background is not a match for any of the positions the search firm is working on presently, then your resume will go on file. This isn't a bad thing. Search firms take on new positions daily or weekly and as such, you will be the first to be made aware of something that might provide a good career advancement step for you if you are already on file.

The number of career college jobs has declined slightly in this economy and there are still specific needs. It's a good idea to remain aware of what is available just in case. It doesn't cost you anything to take a look and, if you don't think a position is right for you, perhaps you know of someone else it might be perfect for.

Director of Admissions Positions (DOA) Available on Career College Jobs

March/April 2009, we have the following Director of Admissions (DOA) positions available. If you would like more information regarding specifics, please email me confidentially with your questions at maddunn@aol.com and my partner Brad and/or I will get back to you promptly.

Compensation is almost always based on experience and current earnings for any Career college job. Compensation shouldn't be the only factor in your decision to look at another opportunity, but our rule of thumb is this: unless you are out of work or are very dissatisfied in your present position, you should expect at least some increase in salary when changing jobs, especially if you are required to relocate. The economy is dictating that this is an employers market, but even so the employers are still offering fair wages. Salaries are always discussed in face to face interviews but we would not present your background to a client where you would be taking a pay cut unless you know those details up front.

In addition, we talk with you first before presenting your background to a client. We don't just send resumes without your permission. If your director of admissions search is confidential, please keep it that way. Don't tell your coworkers or your boss that you were contacted by a "headhunter" as that will only alert them and place doubt in their minds. We are professionals and will do everything to protect your confidential inquiry.

Here are the present Director of Admissions (DOA) positions we have available.

1. Director of Admissions needed (DOA) in Rochester, NY. This DOA would oversee all adult admissions on two campuses. This position is available immediately.

2. Admissions Manager for a medium sized school in Columbus, OH. This individual should have some admissions management experience. The admissions manager will help prepare reports, train reps, etc. Typical DOA description as seen on this blog.

3. Large, well recognized parent company school is seeking DOAs for their schools in the mid-Atlantic and southeast. All positions require progressive DOA experience. Some but not all require a degree. Stable, steady career path and background is required.

4. An experienced DOA is needed in Wayne, NJ for an allied medical school. The DOA will supervise both adult and high school admissions. A college degree is preferred for this opportunity. This is also a school owned by a successful career college organization.
